Honest comparison
Clever Cleaner alternative for iPhone
Clever Cleaner is the best free iPhone photo cleaner we have tested: no ads, nothing locked, everything on-device. Two gaps make people look for an alternative — it does not detect photos saved from messaging apps, and its blurry-frame detection is partial. On the same 12,148-item library it flagged 7.1 GB against AiCleanerPro's 8.6 GB. If those categories are not in your library, stay with the free app.

When Clever Cleaner is the right answer
If your goal is to spend nothing and your library is mostly camera photos, Clever Cleaner is the app to use. It is genuinely free — no ads, no locked features, no scan-then-pay wall — and it processes everything on the device. Its duplicate and similar-photo detection was among the best in our test, and it includes video and Live Photo compression, which not every paid app offers.
We say this on our own comparison page too. Recommending a competitor is not generosity; it is the only way a comparison is worth reading. If the free tool covers your library, paying for a second one buys you nothing.
Where it stops
Chat photos. Images auto-saved from WhatsApp, iMessage, and Telegram are compressed re-copies with different bytes, so they do not appear as duplicates anywhere. Clever Cleaner has no category for them. On our benchmark library, chat saves accounted for roughly 2.2 GB — the largest single gap between the free and paid results.
Blurry frames. Detection is partial rather than thorough, so soft-focus and motion-blurred shots survive a pass. About 0.6 GB on the same library, and more if you shoot handheld in low light.
Everything else is close. Both apps run on-device, neither shows ads, and both route deletions through the iOS Recently Deleted album so a mistake stays recoverable for 30 days.

FAQ
Clever Cleaner questions, answered
Is Clever Cleaner actually free?
Yes. Clever Cleaner has no ads and no features locked behind a paywall, and it processes photos on the device. That is unusual: the common pattern in this category is a free scan that reports your potential savings and then charges before you can delete anything. Clever Cleaner does not do that.
Why look for a Clever Cleaner alternative at all?
Two gaps. It does not detect photos auto-saved from messaging apps, and its blurry-frame detection is partial rather than thorough. On libraries heavy with WhatsApp or Telegram saves, chat photos alone were about 2.2 GB in our 12,148-item benchmark — space Clever Cleaner leaves in place.
How does AiCleanerPro compare to Clever Cleaner?
On the same test library, Clever Cleaner flagged 7.1 GB in roughly 40 seconds and AiCleanerPro flagged 8.6 GB in about 35 seconds. The difference was almost entirely chat photos plus more thorough blur detection. Both run entirely on-device. Clever Cleaner is free; AiCleanerPro gives 3 full scans free and then costs $4.99/month or $29.99/year.
Can I use both?
Yes, and for a one-off cleanup that is a reasonable plan: run the free tool first, then a second scanner to catch the categories it does not cover. Nothing about either app conflicts with the other, and both route deletions through the iOS Recently Deleted album.
What should I use if I want to spend nothing?
Clever Cleaner, paired with Apple's built-in Duplicates album (Photos → Albums → Utilities → Duplicates) as a first pass. That combination covers exact duplicates, similar shots, and screenshots at no cost. Our roundup of free iPhone cleaner apps covers the rest of the free options.
Try it before you decide
First 3 full scans are free with every feature unlocked — enough to clear a typical library and compare the result against whatever you are using now. 30-day recycle bin, nothing uploaded.
